This winter has been a fun one so far with our weather goingg up and down so it can make out side ridding kind of hard to do for thous of us that don't have indoor ridding arenas close buy. So for me I'm stuck ridding out side all winter in the deep snow watch is way to much fun to be good for you. lol
It makes it hard to work on some stuff cause lopping can be to dangerous. so it's just many jogging watch is good a healthy for your horses to stretch his legs and get moving in the cold weather.
When i ride Mars i have to be a little care full he likes to go and also to go strait up and have some fun. He don't like it when I'm bear back but that how i ride in the winter so he has to deal with it. I always have to make sure he's in a listening mod or if her just wants to fight before i decide to go out on the road with him, he's kind of a touchy horse but i love him. Mars also has a bunch of weight he needs to lose so he will be the one doing more mails this winter.
Pretty is much more comae and quit, i have no concerns about her but she needs the more training with new and different things.
Dec 28/ 2010
Up till today i have just been ridding my two horses in my out door arena, when it's cold i only ride with halter and lead road and bare back, no cold bit in the mouth for either Mars or Pretty this way it's a kind of different training, more voice commands then anything. Today was a very nice day so i figured me and Mars would go for a 2 mail jog around the block with just halter and lead roap and he did very good. there was a couple times he wanted to pick up the pas and go home much faster then i wanted him to so we had to have a little talk about that. we did our 2m jog half of it was slow and steady the other i let him really strach out his legs and he very much liked that except when i asked him to slow back down again.
I just road Mars today and i did some halter work with Pretty, she needs to learn how to jog beside me instead of behind me.
Reining
To Reing a horse is not only to guid him, but also to direct his
every movement. The best reining horse should be willingly guided through a set
of complex maneuvers, with litlle or no apparent resistance.

C.C.R.H.A. Brandond Sept 24 - 26 2010
September 23
We left Home at 5:35pm. dad drove at first and i wanted to see but not even half way me got stuck driving and drove the remainder 2 hours. We arrived in Brandon a little after 9pm any ferrther i would have been able to stay awake. We still had to unload and I wanted to ride before we when to bed. There was only another 10 horses in the arena and Pretty didn't seem to mind she just wanted to look all over and see all the horses.
We worked our scales, spins and stops and she felt really good just she really didn't want to slow down that much. We road till 11 i gave her a bath then put her away for the night and when and crashed my self in my nice big bed.
September 24
Finlay got to sleep in this morning till 9am. when to go feed but dad already beet me to it. the show didn't start till 5pm this evening so we had time go go look around grab lurch and go ride before our class started. Nat and Chris showed up after lurch. ( Chris my boyfriend) Pretty was good in warm up and she just wanted to go slow today.
Our first class was Green Horse/ Rider. There was about 25 other riders in the class so this was going to be a tough one to win. we watch a lot of good runs and was starting to think me and pretty didn't stand a good chance of placing in this class, every one was looking very good but a couple people got 0.
Me and Pretty when in to the class kind of slow. i pushed her a little to much for the big searcals, she don't look very pretty going to fast so going the other way i didn't push her as much and she put her head down more. Her spins her dead on fast and pretty. the stops she kind of wanted to charge and she had a problem digging in because the ground was so deep but still did some pretty stops.
Green Rider we got 2nd with score of 63.5 and Green Horse we got 4th.
So I was very happy with her and our run, she got her treats and a bath.
We went out fore supper watch was really bad so after we when to the bar in the hotel for some frieze and chicken, every one was having some drinks. (I'm not much of a drinker) around 10:30pm after all the class finished i when to ride pretty in the show ring and Nat and Chris came and watch but there was no coffee in there coffee mugs lol . lol. lol. I made a mistake but practising some spinning with Pretty and i lost me balances and ended put hanging on to Pretty neck when she finally came to a stop. I had to stay here till the room stopped spinning and when i looked up i could see Chris and Nat laughing like crazy at me, both of the really red in the face. Pretty was a good girl and didn't move but just waited for me to sit up right before she moved. the rest of the evening was good we worked some more stops but not more spinning for now. We finely got to bed little after 12.
September 25
Really early start. My class was at 7am so I was up at 6am so I could feed and warm up Pretty how didn't really want to do anything this morning. just like my 2 helpers how said they would get up and come watch me but both were till snoring when i left the room. The class was Ranch Reining and there was only 3 of us in the class witch kind of sucked cause it was just me, dad and another young kid. The pattern was a good one and so was our run but Pretty really didn't was to put much speed behind anything so i didn't push her at all, and she did a really nice pretty run with her head down the hole time.
Ranch Reining we got 2nd 65.5
Dad got 3rd
The boy how beet me only did buy 1 point.
My next class is after lunch around 5pm so I went back to bed for a little bit. We went out for lunch when came back and road goring lurch brake and pretty was really fighting me, not wanting to slow down at all and I had to fix her a couple of time to get here to go slow again.
The last class but also the Hades one of the weekend. There was also 40 people in this class and most are big showers with expansive horses. Watching the other compatters kind of made me nerves cour of how good of runs there were doing and how high of scores they where all getting. Me and Pretty where way down the list so i got to watch most of the people run, witch i like to do just to see what they do and how they ride cause that kind of how i learn.
Me and Pretty when in to our class kind of novice and trying to keep my self and her focused on what we had to and and trying not to forget the patten. We had a nice put her cereals were prefect and her spins were really nice and fast, even batter the lead changes here bang on i barley got to ask her to change and she did it so smooth I and to check to make sure she changed. The stops where nice but for some reason she though we where fencing today and i had to hard turn to we would not hit the fence. but other then that we had i nice run and we walked out of there laughing because of how close we got to that fence.
Rookie 0
We didn't place in the top 3 but Jen wrote all the scores down and she thinks i would have placed 8th or something like that but that's still good compared to how many people were in that class.
Shows 2010
May 29 - 30 C.W.H.A. Pine Ridge
It's the first show of the year and there is big competition this year. It rained both days and really hard, we lost power for a bit on Sunday.
Pretty tried really hard and looked very good we god a lot of good feed back. But i think she felt small next to some of the other horses. Saturday we didn't place in any of our class but on Sunday we got 6Th in Trail. I was very happy with her cause most of the time she don't do that good in trail class. we didn't place in Reining but our score was 67 1/2 so i was still pretty happy with her, she tried.
No Mars this show he was still sore and not ready.
July 10 - 11 C.W.H.A. Pine Ridge
We had a good day of showing and everything was going great until a horse in please class kicked out at Pretty and hit her in the chest. After that she refused to go slow at all, I Guss she was mad and there went my class. My Trail was even worse I think she was trying to count how many logs there were and how dead slow of a lop she could do but i wouldn't call that loping more like 4 beating. My Western horsemanship went much batter but there was like 25 of us in the class so we didn't place.
We had C.C.R.H.A. Reining that evening and we did very good. Got 1st place in Green Horse with a score of 68. and we didn't place in out other class but scored 67 1/2. we won a blanket for 1st place.
Sunday was OK the only class we placed in was well nothing. we tried but we either wort going slow enough or her head was not down enough or something like that. when reining came around it was Stakes Reining so i was really hopping to do good. We got a score of 70 watch is the best score we have ever had. ~!!!!wow!!!!~ but today it was not good enough to place in the money, oh well i was still very happy, extra apples for her.
No Mars Again, but there was a trail pattern he would have loved to do and would have gone a really good job.
July 22-25 Morris Stampede
The fun show was held on Sunday July 25. This would be Pretty first fun show so i was really looking forwards to it. She did not to bad for her first time. I also Brought Mars and Hunter for the fun show. Hunter usually does not place, he's not fast enough but i just bring him for the fun. Mars was doing really well but he went sore so we stooped.
Pretty - Mars - Hunter
2nd - 1st - 0 Big T
2nd - 0 - 0 Barrels
1st - Scratch - 0 Poles
0 - Scratch - 5 Keyhole.
We have the brakes to stop but we also have sliders on and we were going pretty fast and we fit the brakes a good 3 feet before the keyhole and still we slide right throw it. !!Good job!!
When there was free time in the ring and there were still a lot of people waiting for the next class to start i took Mars in and road him around with my wip and snaping it and getting Mars to stop on a dim with out toucking the rain. backing up on his own. and i was doing my trick with him like. standing on his back and jumping off, Going all the way on one side of the sadddle so a could almost touck the ground, craling under him. walking all the way around him snapping my wip and he never moved. i put my hat on his head and he made it fall of and then picked it up for me. some one brought me a laso so i was ropping off Mars and i was ropping Mars. I was trying to get Mars to lung around me but he just stopping and stared at me refusing to go so we didn't do anymore of that. I put on my little trick show on friday, saturday and sunday nad everyone in the crowed liked watching.
August 7 Turn N Burn For the Cure
Now this is fun, all it is, is barrels racing for Cancer. You just have to Furies money to run and you get only one run per horse but it's all for a good cause. I raced Mars, Pretty and Hunter. I raised $ 278.00, I want to get way more for next year.
Pretty did very good, we tuck our turns pretty wide and she was not sure of what she was supposed to do but still tried. When I walked in with Hunter, every one how had a camera was now pointing it at me and Hunter. he didn't seem to have a lot of speed today but with his big strides it don't take him longer to get around the barrels. the only problem is that he don't have enough room to maneuver around the barrels.
Pretty 20.367
Hunter 31.763
Mars 18.900 3rd in 4D
August 14 - 15 C.C.R.H.A. Rudko
This was are first C.C.R.H.A. Show of the year, we missed all the ones before it. The show was out side and it lightly raining all day on and off but it was OK. Saturday was good, our first class didn't go as i wanted it. Pretty didn't really want to go slow and she charged on our stops but still managed to make it look good. On Sunday Pretty seemed sore in the morning but did a really good first run but after that she quit so i scratched from my other class. She had twisted her right front ankle.

August 22 Grunthal Fun Show
I just brought Mars and Hunter today. I took Mars in to the warm up arena and everything was going good his head was down and jogging slow. As soon as i asked him to lope, he reared straight up (I thought we were going backwards), he goes down, bucks, bunny hops and rears back up and i did a somersault off the front, landing on my tail bone and i look up and Mars is standing 2 feet away from me just looking at me as if to say "What you doing down there"
The rest of the day went good he didn't fight me at all. Me and Hunter had a lot of people cheering us on even thou we weren't the fasts and we didn't win anything there was still a lot of people happy to see use there.
When me and Mars did Poles i think i hit every pole with my knees cause he was cutting it so close and tight, just sit back and hold on. Hunter on the other hand took his time and had nice long strides so there was no cutting things close. Flags was fun, Me and Hunter had to come to a stop so i could learn far over to grab the flag cause he don't like getting close to the barrel and on the way home, well he just wanted to go home. Mars had a different ideas when it comes to doing flags. run full bore past the first flag, just barrel grabbed it and at the 2nd barrel slam on the brakes just long enough for me to switch flags and......... In stead of going around the barrel mars trays to do a roll back over the barrel. ah that was not what i had in mind.

It rained on and off all day and me and Pretty just didn't feel like being here. We really massed up are Trail class top begin the day, then Pleasure was OK but we didn't go slow enough, Still working on that. Western Horsemanship when about the same way. Then Reining finally came but there was one small problem, the Judge we had was an English Hunter/ Jumper Judge how didn't know a thing about reining. Not a thing. I mean it was nice for everyone to get really height scores and some people deserved them and others did not bit I'm don't think this judge knows the difference.
Reining Tied for 3rd 72 1/2
My run went very good but I know we can do batter but i also know that my score shouldn't have been that high. For 1 she steeped out of her spins to the right, 2 her head went up on the stops, 3 she didn't go as slow as i wanted her to and 4 she charged on one of her stops.
September 18 - 19 C.W.H.A. Pine Ridge Finales
Saturday when OK i didn't show in anything but reining so i was just watching everyone else today. Me and Pretty wormed up at lunch brake and was lopping really slow and we did a few flying lea changes watch she did perfectly. I was not pushing her today i was just doing reining nice, slow and pretty which when really good.
Our reining pattern was perfect. nice circles, she slowed down so nicely she almost stopped and our lead changes we bang on, I barely got to ask her to change and she just changer so smoothly i could barely tell. on our run downs she picked up to much speed at the take off so i just sat back and asked her to slow down and she hit the brakes. the stops where not what i wanted she knew before i asked her to stop but she still slid pretty good. when we got to the spine we ran into a problem. I did 4 to the right and the someone whistled out for me to stop ( watch i hate when they do that) and i yelled at them to SHUT UP and the i spun to the left only 3 times.
We got a 0 but our score would have been a 69 1/2. We needed to score today to run in the Finals so i did not get to run for the saddle but i also didn't have an extra $ 140 anyways. I was mad but not at pretty she did the best job she could, i just sometime have a problem counting.
I am looking forwards to Brandon next week and can't wait and hopping for the best.
No saddle this year but always next year. I will be back with Pretty and Mars
September 24-26 C.C.R.H.A. Brandon
Brandon was loads of fun, there were a lot of horses there from all over. The Sates, Alberta, BC. lot of big time showers and very nice large trailers. I could live out of some of those trailers.
It was a long weekend and Pretty didn't seem to have much up and go but we still did very good. all the class were big with lots of riders in one class, me and Pretty looked kind of small next to these big show horse. The ground in the show ring was not the best for stopping so pretty didn't really want to try all that much but we still did good. Every time we go there no one really seems to talk to us, i dont' know why but we just get looked at as though they don't want us there.
Our first class was on Friday evening Green Horse / Rider so we only ran the pattern once. There was i think about 25 people in that class with me and dad. We did our run as best we could, her circles were good but she put her head up when i asked her for more speed. ( she don't look pretty when we go to fast) her spins where very nice and very fast. It's hard to count and stay on at the same time going that fast. the stops where not the best but the ground was very deep.
Saturday earl morning we had our Ranch R class at 7am. Pretty was still very much asleep so we kind of had a slow run and everything felt really good. the guy who beat me only did by 1 point. grrrrrrr. Dad and Sue got 3rd.

Horse Barn Burnt. 5 lost
Septber 3 2010
The fire started around 5:30pm. it is believed the bales got hot and caught fire. Bob could see the smoke from the house but it was already to late. Not being able to get in to the barn to try and save the horses the people who came to help were forced to watch the barn burn down.
The fire department fought the fire well into the night. The 5 horses that where inside at the time of the fire died.
This is a prayer i wrote i hope you like it.
Dear God Heavenly Father
You have blessed this world with amazing animals such as horses, and you have in trusted us with there care and for that I thank you. they have moved us in so many ways I can not begin to explain the depth in which they have touched our souls.
But Lord, God. There time with us is coming to an end and it breaks my heart that you will have them leave this world. Though they are going to a much batter place with wide open lush green pastures, where they will never know pain, hunger or sadness ever again.
I know some have failed to take proper care of these animals and so some are happy to leave, great full in that there no more pain. well other's have lived a life of privilege and with lots of love and care but it breaks my heart to see them go.
So no matter the kind of lives they lived pleas welcome then into your home with open arms and pleas let then know no more pain. And for those who where left unloved and uncared for in this cruel world pleas let them know I'm sorry, we're sorry we failed them and you Lord most of all.
So Lord listen to there stories and bless then all, for the lessons they taught us, the times they comforted us, for when they made us fall off and taught us how to get back on the saddle, for the tears they dried, the hearts they mended, for then they brought us to out knees and rose us to glory.
Thank you Lord for these amazing animals. Now I know there are ANGELS on earth, you just disguised them as HORSES.

Looking Forwards 2011
This next year I'm going to be trying really hard to win in both C.C.R.H.A. and in C.W.H.A.
If Mars is all good and not sore anymore he will be in C.W.H.A. compeating in English, Trail, Barrles, Poles and Keyhole. He can do all of these class really good, the slow and the fast, he loves Trail class, going slow and all the complex maneuvers, a bit of a show off he is. And the speed classing he also loves but we do our best in keyhole becusa our brakes are really really good, runing full bore as fast as he can go into the keyhole, hit the brake and spin around at the same time and run out with out toching the line.
Mars also has all his fun show to go to. Morris, Grunthal, Sundown
Pretty is going to have a toufe year she will be in both C.W.H.A. and C.C.R.H.A.
C.W.H.A. is going to be in Pleaser Class, Weastern Horses. Reining.
C.C.R.H.A. is just Reining.
we still got a lot of training to do, like getting her to slow down some more, keeping her head down going fast and slow, i would like if she would slow down a little more when we get toi the small cercals. but we got all winter to work that.
Im looking forwards to a good year with my summer full of horse shows.

August 29 2010 A Fun Day in Sandylands
We left my place around 10:40am all loaded up and hitting the road with three 4-wheels and two horses. planing for a nice sunny day we gotta nice windy, cloudy day but the rain missed us so that was good. we got to the camp spot and unloaded and had a BBQ first cause we where all hungry. As Mars trys his hard is to get to the good grass under neath all the branch is.
I very very much liked riding 4-wheels, open road yes but not the trails they feel out of control to me, like there going to tip over or something. So I'm not taking any chance and I'm ridding Mars my trusty horse. Natalia, Brett nad my mom and driving the 4-wheels and dad is ridding his horse Sue.
Our horses are not scared of the 4-wheels so i can run right up beside them and race no problem. well the ride starts of good but it didn't last. My dad is having problems with his horse. Sue keeps throwing his head up and rearing up on dad and does not want to go slow or lesson. Dad don't want to fight so he heads back to the trailer and we keep going. so It's just me and Mars and the 4-wheels. we hear of the suicide hill first, its a good spot to get a really good look at thing and it looks like that rain will miss us. So off we go deeper in to the woods but don't worrier i don't think we can get lost, Mars Wants to go home so he knows the way.
Ruining down the trials to keep up with every one Else is hard work and lots of fun. I have a bad habit of talking to my horses when i ride watch i don't know if he can hear me over the 4-wheels but i keep telling him, Watch out, watch your feet, pick up, slow down, ears boy, good boy, lets go. where going pretty fast down some trails and me rails our lose just as if we where in the show pen and Mars is just leasing so good but he's been out here lauds of times before. Ever since i started ridding, Sandy lands has been a place we've come to at least 2 - 3 times a year, so i can say i know the trails pretty good.
We find a old sand road the the loggers use and we let them fly, mom, Nataly and Brett all take off right in front of Mars sending dust flying, but i didn't even get to say go. Mars took off full bore after the 4-wheels just a flying, i could see both of his front feet stretched out way in front of him, his run is so smooth and his breaths are deep. There no chance of stopping till we catch up. Mars was happy, in him prime. Head up ears forwards, looking every where, just ready to give it all he has the Minuit i ask him for it.
We found a bog we needed to cross and the 4-wheels got stuck but one by one they all got out and pour Mars didn't want to cross. I found a spot where he could just jump across but not with me on him. I had to get off and show him the way across and over he came with out a problem. there were a lot of trees down and mars got to work on his jumping a few times but the 4-wheels had to find a way around...... ahahahahaahaha.......
We had a good safe and fun ride but Mars was tried by the end, I think we did around 30 - 35 mails, so ah Mars is tired

Pretty Little Maximus
I started looking a another horse in the winter of 2008.
I wanted a horse with attitude like Mars, but I was looking for a horse that I could compete with and go far. But the problem was I wanted to train my own horsed so I was kind of stuck.
I tried out a few other horses, but all of them just did not feel right.
When I finally saw Pretty for the first time, I was looking for a horse for my Dad.
In 2006, when she was 2, she got caught up in some barbed wire that cut her open from stifle to hip. Her owner at the time thought that he'd have to put her down, but luckily the vet said that she could go out into pasture for 2 years and just let it heal itself.
When I got on to ride her for the first time all she wanted to do was buck and run, but once I asked to spin, she acted as though she forgot how. But not how to stop.
We spent the whole winter getting ready for the shows, which was hard because we just about had to start all over again.
I was worried about her cut, that it would take a lot of time to heal and with training, I was scared that it would rip open more.
But it never did.
Her wound in March 2009

She had been trained a great deal before the accident, but now she was out to pasture for 2 years in order to let the wound heal.

Her wound in March 2009We continued to train all winter and were ready for the first Central Canada Reining Horse Association (CCRHA) show. Our first 4 runs together during the weekend of May 23-24, 2009, we got 66.5 and 0 in R.C. Beginner. In Green Horse/Green Rider we got 63 & 68.
I was very happy with her. We didn't place, but I was happy.
Since our first show in 2009, Pretty has come a long way. She constantly scores in the high 60's for Reining, as well as doing very good in Trail and winning Western Pleasure and Western Horsemanship this year.

January 3 – 9, 2010
January 3, 2010 (4 miles):
It was a long ride today, the usual 4 miles, but Pretty kept wanting to quit. Mars doesn't really like to turn his head to the right and likes to fight. I'm working on when I say “whoa” that they both stop and the same thing with humming to slow down and easy.
After we were done riding, Pretty was in her standing stall, backing up and trying to break her rope, when she kicked out with her back right and caught me in the leg, just above my knee. If she would've gotten 2 inches down, she would've hit my knee straight centre. So now I have some black & blue bruising going, but I also got after her for that so that she knows that she is not allowed to do that.
January 4, 2010 (5 ½ miles):
My riding student Ashley came with me for a ride today. It's been sometime since she was riding last, so Mars was giving her some attitude. I rode Pretty and she was deciding that she didn't want to back up anymore when I was asking her, so when I asked her again, she threw up her head and I just pulled back and she actually sat down! She wasn't very happy about that. Mars seemed to be limping a little on his front left, but I didn't feel any heat or swelling, so he might just be a bit sore. I'll check on him tomorrow to see how he's doing.
January 5, 2010:
I just rode at home today with Pretty. I didn't see Mars limping but I figured I'd give him a day off. Me & Pretty worked starting and stopping, backing up (which she hates), stop and back-ups and making sure that she didn't sit down this time. She only likes backing up 3-4 steps and then she quits and I have to get after her in order to keep her backing up until I tell her to stop. We'll get there eventually, she just has to keep remembering who's the boss and to start respecting me and quit giving attitude all the time.

God of War
It was a bad day at school again, everyone teasing me and calling me names, but dad had a surprise for me. A long drive to Marshand to pick someone up that would change my life.
I told dad I wanted my own horse, since both my sisters have one of their own. And I found him, but dad did not like it. How can I get anywhere in life if no one thinks I can really do it. Oh dad believed in me but the horse I wanted was a wild mustang.
School is hard for me because I have ADD and my writing and reading is not good. I was 12 years old but a 5 year old could read better then I could. Even the teachers stopped giving spelling tests and I had an EA in every class.
But this horse would change that all. He was 4 months old and completely untouchable. He was to be sent to the slaughter house because no one would give him a chance but I bought him for $250.00 dollars out of my own pocket. Getting him home was not much of a problem. We just chased him into the trailer and we were off. Even before we got home! even before dad took a good look at him, he said we should take him back, but I would not let him. I saw that same fire burning in his eyes like it was in my heart. His name would be Mars God Of War, I liked it. All the neighbors had come down to see my new horses and they all had told me to send him back or he could kill, me but I said I would take my chances.
It was "show and tell" in class so I told them about my new horse and it did not take long before all my nicknames changed. Ones like horse killer, horse arouser, horse eater, now there’s two failures, or like blondes are dumb, how do you kill a blond, stupid horse and stupid girl. It did not matter; I was not listening to a word they were saying.
I spent all my free time with Mars and it did not take long till he was following me around. By giving him my trust I got his. I got him used to loud noises, cars, semis, bright and big objects. I was making him a bombproof horse; my little wild horse would not be scared of anything.
I did all the training myself, it was hard and long, but when I gave up on him he did not give up on me. I broke him in December when he was 2 and half years old and to every one surprise he did not freak out, he was perfectly calm. The kids in school never were nice about it but I found a quote that really meant a great deal to me with failing in school and friends. I don’t now who it’s from but it’s: "I have not failed; I have found 10,000 ways that don’t work."
Mars and me have gone on to many C.W.H.A. horse shows and we have earned around $2000 dollars and we hold the high point Horse & Rider of 2004 & 2005, High point Horse & Rider of the Eastern Regional Team of 2007 and we also still hold the high point Trail Rider for 6 years including this year. And my dad wanted to send him back.
School was still hard for me but my reading and writing is slowly improving with lots of help from family and friends. The teasing and name calling has come down a bit but I can still hear those words being said. I am 20 now and Mars is 9 and we have both come a long way together. When I look back at my life I don’t think I would be as far as I am today if it weren’t for MARS. I believed in myself when times are bad in school but it was Mars how showed me that even if we are a little wild and different, we all need someone to believe in us.
